Good morning

I woke up this morning to a lovely e-mail from Chris Walsh, a teacher at Sheridan College, telling me he was going to write a little blurb about my blog and my work on his animation blog. You can see it if you go here http://walsh-o-matic.blogspot.com/2009/07/curious-spoon.html

Ever since I started blogging my production work, I have really enjoyed making more connections with animators. It doesn't seem such a lonely place anymore! Without further ado, I give you the first 7 seconds... I know the very end is a tad offbeat, I have since fixed it, just haven't exported it. I have just started noticing this minor sound effect in the background of Howard's song that sounds like scissors cutting, pay attention for it!

  2. Just read the Walsh-O-Matic article and your comments. I'm not really surprised that if your reel and portfolio don't fall in line with the more conventional styles of North American children's animation, you might find it it hard to find a job.

But fuck 'em. I don't think you really need to go that route. It's clear to see that you have a healthy and well developed sense of design and taste. You should focus on making your own films. Keep doing shorts and music videos, apply for grants, keep uploading things online. Keep making the kind of films you like the way you want to make them, and I can guarantee you'll develop an audience who will appreciate what you're doing.

Obviously doing your own thing is for most a harder path than just getting a mainstream job. But success can be found as long as you're willing to do the work (Pen Ward and his Adventure time short (soon to be a series), Jib Jab, Happy Tree Friends, Felicia Day and The Guild). The upside is that you can be content producing the kind of work you want to do, and the audience gets something more unique, personal and varied than what's on TV. You've already proved yourself talented, now you just need to do the work and give us something to watch!
